NUBIA- LUXOR - CAIRO, EGYPT
June, 2023
“There are many ways to learn, to absorb and to receive, but to know…one must experience.”
This transformational 9-day and 8-night journey through Nubia, Luxor, and Cairo helped students gain a deeper intellectual understanding of the mission and purpose of the Cooper Woodson College Educational Equity Program of California State University, Sacramento. Students were able to submerge themselves in knowledge and wisdom of the land, meet with native professors and elders of communities, visit historic sites and engage with locals in personal and experiential environments allowing for an imitable educational experience. The journey took place between the 15th and 24th of June, 2023.
About the Experience
This journey is based on the path of the ancient Egyptian initiation system, paralleling the journey of ascension within our own bodies. We begin at the origins, in Nubia, the root chakra of Egypt, and we tap into the ancient wisdom held here for centuries. Next, we journey to Luxor, the sacral and solar plexus of Egypt. Luxor is our entry into the reawakening of divine intelligence that has always been inside of us. We will journey through temple gates, learning from the ancients, acquiring knowledge, and developing ritual. Our journey culminates in Cairo, the throat chakra and third eye with energy pouring up from the heart. Our mastery of self reimagined, reawakened. Along the way, students were introduced to teachings of Pan African philosophers, intellectuals and the social/historical moments that speak to the trajectory of the African educational experience.
Educational Component
Students received academic credit for ETHN 98-01 – Co-Curricular Activities. This experience was also open to undergraduate students, graduate students and the community.
The Program
Combining signature RTK methods of transformation and ritual with experiential visits to historic sites and educational research elements, the program is a well-rounded curriculum for physical, emotional, intellectual and philosophical exploration.
